After researching assistive technology, I learned so much about what is out there for people to use, and why someone might need it. To me, the most interesting thing was the special type of mouse for people with muscle control problems. It helps them by giving them and enlarged picture of the screen, so they have a bigger target to hit for a button, so they don’t hit the wring one. What I found the most surprising was the Braille Music. I never even heard of this, or though it was possible for a blind person to read sheet music, I just thought they learned by hearing and repeating the music. The one I thought was the most beneficial to users would be the mouse. This can help them in anything. Everything now a days is on the computer and the buttons and fields to click are small.
If I had to use some of the technology I researched, I would feel weird. Most people you see don’t have to use these things. It would make me feel like I wasn’t normal or I didn’t belong. The technology could help me a lot, though. In school, the mouse would let me be able to do computers class much easier than trying to use a regular mouse. I would be able to do everything as quick as the other kids, rather than spending a half hour trying to click in a tiny felid, and keep missing. In everyday life, I would be able to use all the social networking sites, like everyone else. I would be able to do pretty much the same things as everyone else.
People would look at people using the assistive technology that I researched. They wouldn’t do it to be rude, but using it makes you different from everyone else. If you were using the mouse, nobody could really tell, unless, they were really concentrating on the screen. It would look normal. IF someone saw someone reading and playing Braille music, they would be stared at. It looks much different than playing regular music. People would be really interested in what they are doing, and how they are doing it. Lastly, if someone saw someone using “the Cube” they would stare. Again, not to be rude, just it’s so different from what people are used to seeing. The person with the disability had to go to a certain tile and something will happen and reveal an image. Most people, never see this, it’s new to th
